Job Overview
Tiger Oak Media’s Meetings + Events group seeks a full-time, creative, detail-oriented assistant editor to join the team of these fast-growing, targeted niche publications. The assistant editor will contribute in writing, editing and planning for nine quarterly (and one twice-annual) print magazines, as well as assisting with various digital responsibilities.

Qualifications include:
+ Minimum of one to two years editorial experience at an established publication (could be a college publication or internship).
+ Bachelors degree in mass communications, journalism or English.
+ Outstanding verbal and written communications skills including the aptitude for reporting, writing, editing and proofreading.
+ Demonstrate strategic thinking and initiative.
+ Comfort and familiarity with digital tools including: Adobe InDesign, social media platforms and Microsoft Word.
+ Ability to prioritize, delegate and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
+ Superior organizational skills.
+ A can-do attitude and ability to work in a highly collaborative atmosphere.
+ A love (and knack) for sourcing interesting and ahead-of-the-curve information.
+ Firm grasp on Associated Press style.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
+ Assist with proofreading, fact-checking and editing of print content at all stages for all titles.
+ Work closely with managing editor on content strategy and selection for Minnesota M+E.
+ Assign, edit and write stories for Minnesota M+ E.
+ Write the Meeting Note Opener and Infographic print sections quarterly.
+ Generate on-time copy that consistently embodies the tone and style of the M+E titles.
+ Assist with tracking and following up on freelance and PR pitches.
+ Attend industry trade shows, conferences and events in order to develop story ideas and relationships with industry professionals.
+ Record comp copy lists for all M+E publications.
+ Write bi-weekly original stories for the Minnesota and National M+E websites.
+ Help find, interview, train and create schedules for interns.
+ Manage intern workload for print and digital, including organizing fact-check/writing assignments, editing web content, and monitoring social media posts and calendar events.
