Seattle magazine is looking for a senior editor to generate ideas and write stories, from features and profiles to blurbs and blog posts. The person in this position is responsible for assigning and/or writing much of the recurring front- and back-of-book content, conceptualizing and writing stories for cover packages, and identifying creative ways to tell stories online. This is an incredibly collaborative work environment, so the right candidate will be curious, capable, organized, positive and a respectful team player.



  • Generate relevant, local story ideas, particularly related to topical city issues, personalities, health trends, the environment, science and technology, travel, and arts and culture
  • Oversee recurring sections at the front and back of the magazine, in addition to a couple of cover packages annually
  • Work with and mentor our interns, and edit copy written by them
  • Write insightful, relatable stories—features, profiles, service package blurbs, blog posts and cover stories as needed—in accordance to the magazine’s style and voice
  • Write headlines and captions
  • Work closely with the managing editor, editor-in-chief, art director and digital editor to conceptualize creative ways to tell stories in print and online
  • Attend events as needed as an ambassador for the magazine



  • A degree in journalism or related field
  • More than 3 years’ experience writing for print or online publications
  • Demonstrated ability to write multi-source compelling features and profiles for a consumer audience, as well as short, pithy blurbs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues and culture of the greater Seattle area
  • Ability to confidently, efficiently interview subjects
  • Strong organizational skills and respect for deadlines
  • Keen attention to accuracy and detail; working knowledge of AP style
  • People skills essential, particularly compassion, humor, consistency and positivity
